TURKISH CITIZENSHIP THROUGH INVESTMENT

Turkey has reduced the required limits for foreigners to acquire Turkish citizenship to encourage investment. According to the new regulations on Turkish Citizenship Law No.5901, foreign investors who meet the following criteria can acquire Turkish Citizenship with his/her spouse and children below 18 years old in only 2 months;

• make fixed capital investment at least USD 500,000,
• purchase the immovable property at least USD 250,000 valued and attached annotation at land registration not to sell this property for 3 years,
• employ at least 50 employees,
• invest at least USD 500,000 and make commitment to hold the amount of deposits for three years at banks operating in Turkey,
• purchase public borrowing instruments at least USD 500,000 and make commitment to hold these instruments for three years,
• purchase a real estate investment fund participation share or venture capital investment fund participation amount of at least USD 500,000 and make commitment to hold these participation shares for 3 years.

PROCEDURE OF CITIZENSHIP BY INVETMENT

1. Opening a bank account in the name of the investor in a bank operating in Turkey.
2. Carrying out the investment transactions such as deposit, purchasing down payment, property title deed transfer, government bond/share purchase etc.
3. Applying for Residence Permit as required for citizenship application. However, residency permit holders can live abroad as long as they wish.
4. Applying for Turkish Citizenship. Physical presence of the property owner or his family is not required during the application process.
